Advocacy Priorities
The group discussed several core areas of focus. A central priority is addressing the expansion of coercive and involuntary treatment practices, particularly as they intersect with homelessness. Participants emphasized the need to ground advocacy in data that demonstrates the effectiveness of voluntary, community-based services while dispelling misconceptions about violence among people with mental health conditions. Strengthening connections to recovery support services was identified as a key component of this work.

The group also highlighted the importance of supporting community-based and recovery-oriented services, especially in light of potential Medicaid and broader social service cuts. In addition, there was strong interest in building cross-movement solidarity by aligning with national organizations and tracking ongoing advocacy efforts to better coordinate strategy and messaging.

Coordination Across Workgroups
Participants discussed the need for strong alignment with other working groups, including media, data, and recovery support services, to ensure cohesive and mutually reinforcing advocacy efforts.
